NYC Neon Installation

NYC Neon Installation

When the Uber office in Manhattan opened a new floor of working space in their building, I was approached to fill a blank white wall with a design that celebrated the culture and spirit of New York City.

Instead of designing a two-dimensional mural, I decided to make the design multi-media. I explored layering stickers, dripping paint, and live wall coverings. I was very drawn to neon as a representation of the local nightlife and of the 24/7 bustling nature of the city. To soften the harsh neon, and contrast the synthetic nature of the substance, I decided to cover the background of the wall with a type of live moss that evokes nature and stays soft to the touch over time.

The finished effect is an intriguing contrast between organic and urban, and evokes the spirit of a city that never sleeps.
